Tuberculosis (TB) and other mycobacterial diseases present complex challenges to global health systems, requiring comprehensive strategies for prevention, diagnosis, and treatment. TB, caused by Mycobacterium tuberculosis, is characterized by its chronic nature and ability to affect multiple organ systems, particularly the lungs. In addition to TB, other mycobacterial diseases, including leprosy (Hansen's disease) and infections due to non-tuberculous mycobacteria (NTM), contribute to the global disease burden. These infections often present with diverse clinical manifestations and require specialized diagnostic approaches for accurate identification and management. Furthermore, drug resistance, co-infection with HIV, and socio-economic factors further complicate efforts to control these diseases. Collaborative efforts between healthcare providers, researchers, and policymakers are crucial for developing innovative approaches to TB and mycobacterial disease control, addressing underlying social determinants of health, and achieving sustainable progress towards disease elimination goals.
