Ongoing research in the field of fungal keratitis focuses on improving diagnostics, treatments, and preventive strategies. Advanced imaging techniques, such as in vivo confocal microscopy, aid in the early identification of fungal keratitis, allowing for prompt intervention. Molecular diagnostics, including polymerase chain reaction (PCR), enable accurate and rapid identification of causative fungal species, facilitating targeted therapies. The development of novel antifungal agents and drug delivery systems is an active area of research. Researchers explore the efficacy of newer antifungal medications and the potential for combination therapies to enhance treatment outcomes. Additionally, investigations into the host immune response aim to understand how the cornea defends against Fungal Infections and how these defense mechanisms can be modulated for therapeutic purposes. Preventive measures continue to evolve with a focus on improved contact lens care, public health education, and understanding the environmental factors contributing to fungal keratitis. Collaborative efforts between ophthalmologists, microbiologists, and immunologists contribute to the advancement of our understanding of fungal keratitis and the development of more effective interventions.
