Anti-infective therapies play a crucial role in the field of medicine, addressing a broad spectrum of microbial infections. Antibiotics, a prominent category within anti-infectives, are substances that inhibit the growth or destroy bacteria. Antiviral medications, another subset, target viral infections by inhibiting viral replication processes. The effectiveness of anti-infective therapies relies on precise identification of the causative microorganism. Antibacterial drugs such as penicillin and ciprofloxacin are commonly prescribed for bacterial infections, while antivirals like oseltamivir are effective against influenza viruses. In recent years, the emergence of antibiotic resistance has posed a significant challenge. Ongoing research focuses on developing new classes of antibiotics and alternative therapies to combat resistant strains. Additionally, antifungal medications like fluconazole are essential for treating fungal infections, particularly in immunocompromised individuals.
