Adult vaccines play a crucial role in preventing and mitigating the impact of various infectious diseases in the adult population. Vaccination is not limited to childhood, as adults require immunization to maintain immunity, protect against emerging diseases, and reduce the severity of illnesses. Common adult vaccines include the influenza vaccine, which is recommended annually, and vaccines for diseases such as tetanus, diphtheria, and pertussis (Tdap) to ensure ongoing protection. The pneumococcal vaccine is recommended for adults, especially those with underlying health conditions or over 65, to prevent pneumonia and related complications. The shingles vaccine (zoster vaccine) is essential for adults aged 50 and older to reduce the risk of developing shingles, a painful viral infection caused by the varicella-zoster virus. Vaccination recommendations may vary based on individual health status, travel plans, and occupational exposure. Hepatitis vaccines, including Hepatitis A and Hepatitis B, are crucial for certain high-risk populations, such as healthcare workers and those with specific medical conditions. The human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine is recommended for adults up to age 26 to prevent HPV-related cancers.
